Great SatNav October 3, 2009 impa1er (UK) 72 out of 73 found this review helpful
I just had my Sony Nav-U stolen out of my car, so I've replaced it with a Garmin which seemed to be rated better than TomTom by those who've used both. I can certainly tell you it's miles better than Sony (who have exited the SatNav business by the way which is why you can't get map updates). The Nuvi is light, sleek, thin and very responsive. It takes no time to find addresses and calculate a route after the first time, Bluetooth seems loud and clear (though I haven't used it yet while driving), the guidance voices aren't too annoying, the interface is ultra-clear and uncluttered, the menu items and icons are really clear, the address input is very good and the whole thing is very intuitive to use. Who needs instructions? I've tried the Eco gadget challenge and it instantly made me want to be a more fuel-efficient driver as it scores your driving out of 100. I turned it off because I was in a hurry and didn't want to be reminded of my petrol-guzzling ways, but I'll definitely use it on the motorway.
The only three little things I'm a little disappointed by so far are that when you add more data to the screen, the screen is drastically reduced because the other info takes up so much space. The second thing that I'm disappointed by is how much the map updates and safety camera updates cost. No doubt it's a good little profit stream for Garmin, but if you want to stay up-to-date, be prepared to reach deep into your pockets. Thirdly, I haven't been able to figure out whether my Nuvi 1310 has traffic updates or not. Oh, and be patient with the website; everything you'd expect is there, it just might take you a little digging and logging in several times to find it.

Bought this sat nav after reading reviews on Amazon and Which web site. Arrived quickly and in time for our weekend journey. Initially had problems with the screen alignment and it was too late to contact Garmin. We played with the unit and once we worked out how far it was out of line we managed to input the data and it was great. Screen is clear and spoken directions good. We actually knew our route so it was a good test and took us direct to our destintation. On our return journey we deliberately took a detour and the unit quickly adjusted and told us how to get back on our route. We contacted Garmin after the weekend and they talked us through a routine which re-aligned the screen and now it is working perfectly. I would recommend this, it is easy to use and a nice sized unit.
Better than another I borrowed! December 18, 2009 P. MCKAY (Bucks. UK) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
As I drive mostly without a navigator I borrowed a Tom Tom from a friend to go into London last Christmas - I usually get lost once I get to the embankment!! It was fantastic so I decided to purchase one of my own but went for the Garmin Nuvi 1310 after studying a Which? report. It is better than the one I borrowed - more specific with road names included and even tells you when you reach the exact house. The instructions are not brilliant - but since my Son showed me how the functions work I'm sure I will get even more out of it! Go Grandma!!!!

This is my first sat nav. Before buying it I read the reviews which I found so helpful(when deciding whether to buy it or not and setting it up). I really like this item. Just so easy to use and recalculates automatically when you take the wrong/different turning to the one suggested. I have poor sense of direction but with this sat nav, the lanes are well displayed. I can now drive with confidence to unknown places.
So easy to use January 19, 2010 x47ship (Scotland) 20 out of 21 found this review helpful
This is my first Sat Nav and after some research and price comparisons I opted for this the Garmin Nuvi 1310.
The screen is superb, very clear and easy to view in all lighting conditions. Being one of those people who fiddle first and read the manual later I found the menus immediately easy to navigate and intuitive.
I've seen some reviews for these commenting on the touchscreen being poor and the one I have was not good out of the box. The touchscreen needed calibrating but after following the procedure in the manual it was perfect. Beware the procedure in the built in help is incorrect, the manual which can be downloaded from the Garmin website has the right procedure. Pity the full manual couldn't have been supplied on CD.
The handsfree bluetooth connection works well despite the speaker being at the rear of the device. With a volume setting of 60% a phone conversation was easily heard whilst on the move.
Overall a very nice and well designed device.
