I'd have sworn I already reviewed this March 1, 2010 Plantagenet (London England) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Charlatan old boy is a rare example of a song that is both good and original.
This band combined elements of Jazz, hip hop, Funk, Soul, and RnB.
I am not usually a fan of rap. In fact it mostly makes me want to break things and scream.
This is different though. Sure there is great rapping, but its the way it is seamlessly joined with trumpet jazz, and the soulful female vocal as well as the funky rhythms that sets this song WAY apart from anything else around today or from the past for that matter.
To have found a niche in music that has not already been filled by an old band from the 60s or 70s is quite an achievement. To do so whilst still being highly commercial and radio friendly is orders of magnitude more amazing.
Give It Up For Digtal Earth March 1, 2010 D. Young (UK) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Well what can i say i love it and so will you if you like funky bass and drums, soulful vocals mixed with rap, flugel horn and keys mixed in the Digital Earth way. I don't know what it is but hey that don't matter because i like it and i Recommend you to buy it, then play it loud....
Fresh, New, FUNKY..!!!! March 1, 2010 Jez A (UK) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Many bands try, and fail to combine classic funk with contemporary musical styles. NOT Digital Earth...!!! The intent is clear from the 2 beat count into a super-groovy bassline: to make get up and dance. Sleek solo horn guides you into a verse rapped to perfection. The vox are split between a guy and a girl and compliment each other in a way rarely acheived by groups these days. All this under-pinned by a solid driving beat and keyuboards/synth that have got real soul..!
I've seen Digital Earth live on a number of occasions, but am very happy I can finally have them on my MP3...
Good work guys, we want more of your tunes up here...!!!!!
Jazz and then some March 2, 2010 Kate 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The jazz trumpet and strong female vocals in this song deliver on the promise made by the funk bass line of the opening bars. Then ,just when you think you know exactly where this band wants to take you, there is rap! Rap that works WITH the funk bass line and the other jazzy elements of the song. A truly unique sound, not to be missed.
What a track from a hot new unsigned act! March 1, 2010 Cardy (Clifton, York, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'm glad I came across this little number!
From the moment the hypnotic bass launched an assault with the drums I was fixated. The funky electric piano, cheeky organ and rasping horn set this track up to be a classic. Then the MC starts spitting and... this is fresh! The icing on the cake for me is the chorus, where the female vocal takes the lead and is complimented by some nice synth sounds. I love the lyrics to this track as well, nothing explicit, just good rhymes and good flow!
The overall production I like, it's raw and rough around the edges and I'm sure these guys would benefit from more time in the studio, but I think the 'demo' sound is a breath of fresh air. I want to hear more from these guys, I shall be awaiting eagerly. If this track is anything to go by, these guys are really onto something.
