A real "CUPRINOL" machine January 24, 2007 Paul Villa (Wales, UK) 30 out of 30 found this review helpful
This is what I call a real CUPRINOL machine because it does exactly what it says on the box. Once I'd made all the connections, then squeezed the fairly large machine into the slot that used to house my VCR, I was ready to switch on. Auto tune found all the available analogue channels and a quick look at the manual had me connected to my freeview box and recording to the HDD in minutes. So far I've tried VHS playback (great picture from a very old recording), HDD record from freeview box and playback (broadcast quality), Time Shift during recording (works fine) and recording from HDD to DVD (disc finalised with no problems). I've yet to try recording from VHS to HDD/DVD but have no reason to think it will be a problem. The machine makes a slight motor sound in DVD use but much is quieter than a VCR and I can't hear anything at all in HDD use. This is a superb piece of kit for the money! UPDATE Jan 2009 - just copied a VHS favourite recording to HDD, edited it and output to DVD. All worked as it should do. I still love this bit of kit!
Fantastic Product!! April 2, 2007 C. Hillier (Bishops Stortford, UK) 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
I bought this item on ebay for a fraction of the price and after a 15minutes installation everything came into place. It does exactly what it says on the tin so to speak. It has the best picture quality I've ever seen and the hard drive is so handy and simple to record and use. Loads of people who have seen it in action over the weekend have fallen in love with it and now want to buy one. Toshiba is a reputated make and I've always trusted it. I've already got a Toshiba television and a Toshiba hi-fi and have never had any problems with either of them. I recommend this product over Sony or Panasonic for that matter however I did have a look at the Toshiba DVR16 but was reluctant to buy it as reviews were not good so beware!! 5 star product extremely recommended.
Dreadful machine April 12, 2008 Mrs. A. Dyke (UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Complicated to use. cannot seem to work out dubbing etc - tried different discs to no avail. Recording on HDD and playing back is fine. VCR play back, bad quality. Takes ages to "warm up" when switched on so often when I want to quickly record something that I have just notice on TV I loose a couple of mins waiting for it to go through its warm up routine. After warranty run out it starting misbehaving with DVD playing.Discs are all fine and new but it is increasingly coming up with Disc error and not loading the discs and when it does decide it wants to play (usually after waiting an age for it to decide it is happy with the disc), it periodically freezes then starts agains a few secs later. Impossible to watch a film. Will never go for toshiba again.
Toshiba recording fun! December 30, 2006 M.T. (U.K.) 22 out of 27 found this review helpful
Truly an amazing machine. It records from VHS/DVD to the Hard Drive. From the Hard Drive to DVD. From Sky/TV to the Hard Drive and I understand it records straight from the TV to DVD/VHS. It is fairly simple to operate - takes a bit of getting used to. The Hard Drive has a good capacity and you can choose the quality of recording onto this and DVD. Truly versatile and not bad value for money on Amazon compared to many other stores.
Can't record chapters on DVD-R discs... April 10, 2007 W. Davies 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
I bought this machine to transfer my VHS tape collection onto DVD discs, via the HDD. I have tried everything, but I've been unable to make DVDs with chapter markings - they are easy to place on the HDD, but when the DVD is recorded, there is only one title & no chapters. I called the help line & was told I'd have to record onto the HDD at the same settings as the recording to DVD. I tried, but it still didn't work. The help line then said I would have to do high speed dubbing to keep the chapter markers (which makes no sense); however High Speed dubbing is not an option unless you're using DVD-RW discs & recording as DVD-VR, not DVD-Video. I think the machine is faulty, but the help line claim you can't make DVD's with chapters (so why have the option on the HDD?). Not recommended for VHS to DVD use!
